About the album
The Beatles' debut studio album was recorded in a single day at EMI Studios on 11 February 1963, with George Martin producing, after he judged the Cavern Club unsuitable for a live recording and switched to a studio album. You get the early singles "Love Me Do" and "Please Please Me" alongside the closer "Twist and Shout," the last song recorded that day, caught on the first take with Lennon fighting a bad cold. Martin described the sessions as a straightforward performance of their stage repertoire, "a broadcast, more or less." It hit the top of the UK album chart in May 1963 and stayed there for 30 weeks before With the Beatles replaced it.
