About the album
Released in March 1974, Chicago VII began as a jazz-influenced project and grew into a double album once the band included the pop and rock-oriented songs they had written. "Call on Me" reached #6, while Peter Cetera's ballad "Wishing You Were Here," featuring three of the Beach Boys on backing vocals, reached #11. It's the sound of a group confident enough to indulge its ambitions and still chart.
