About the album
Released early in 1969, Bayou Country was Creedence's second album and the record where John Fogerty's swamp-rock vision snapped fully into focus. Recorded at RCA's Studio A in Hollywood, it is built around Fogerty originals steeped in bayou imagery, alongside a version of Little Richard's "Good Golly Miss Molly." "Proud Mary" gave the band its first No. 2 single and was quickly covered by Solomon Burke in 1969 and Ike and Tina Turner in 1971, while the swampy "Born on the Bayou" opens the set. "Keep On Chooglin'" closes the album and would become a concert show-stopper for the band.
