About the album
Released in 2006, On An Island was David Gilmour's first solo album in over two decades, arriving on his sixtieth birthday. Much of it was recorded in his private studio aboard the houseboat Astoria. Phil Manzanera co-produced, with contributions from Richard Wright, David Crosby and Graham Nash. The title track and 'Smile' were issued as singles, and the album entered the UK chart at No. 1.
