Collector Notes: The Singles 81→85 put Depeche Mode's first five years in one place: the Vince Clarke era of Dreaming Of Me, New Life and Just Can't Get Enough; Martin Gore taking over as songwriter with See You, Leave In Silence and Everything Counts; then the Hansa, Berlin years of People Are People, Master And Servant and Blasphemous Rumours, the records that turned a Basildon synth-pop band into something darker and much bigger. It closes on Shake The Disease and It's Called A Heart, two 1985 singles that sit on no studio album. The set was never released in North America; American stores got a different compilation, Catching Up With Depeche Mode, so this disc was always an import here. This copy is the original 1985 UK compact disc, glass-mastered by Nimbus, the first CD plant in Britain, with no barcode on the back insert: the first Nimbus pressing, before the barcoded repress. Disc is in Excellent (EX) condition, shows multiple visible marks, but does not affect play. Booklet shows 4 deep dents along the right, top/bottom sides from the plastic holders.
