About the album

Released by RCA Victor on October 20, 1961, Blue Hawaii is the soundtrack to the 1961 film of the same name starring Presley. The album spent 20 weeks at number one on Billboard's Top Pop LPs chart and was certified Gold in December 1961, later reaching 3× Platinum. Touches of Hawaiian music run through it, from the instrumentation to the traditional "Aloha 'Oe," and "Can't Help Falling in Love" is based on the eighteenth-century French song "Plaisir d'amour" and became the standard closer of Presley's concerts in the 1970s. "Rock-A-Hula Baby" and the title song are both here, and the success of this soundtrack and G.I. Blues set the pace for the rest of the decade, as Presley focused almost exclusively on film work for much of the 1960s.
