About the album
On December 4, 1956, Elvis Presley paid a casual visit to Sun Studio in Memphis while Carl Perkins was recording, and an impromptu jam session took shape with Jerry Lee Lewis on piano; Johnny Cash was around too, though accounts differ on how long he stayed. Engineer Jack Clement decided the session was worth recording, and he rolled tape. What survives is loose, informal music-making of gospel numbers, country tunes and rock and roll favorites traded between friends. First issued in Europe in 1981, it captures Presley, Perkins and Lewis, with Cash's presence on tape still debated, playing for the pleasure of it rather than making polished studio recordings meant for release.
