About the album

Released in October 1967, Winds Of Change moved Eric Burdon away from the blues and R&B sound of the original Animals and into psychedelic territory. Backed by a new lineup billed as Eric Burdon & the Animals, the record trades the blues for spoken-word pieces over sparse, psychedelic backings, and brings sitar and electric violin into the group's sound. The title track is a spoken-word piece, "San Franciscan Nights" has been described as a joyous celebration of the West Coast psychedelic scene, and the only cover on the album is the Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black". A document of a restless singer reinventing himself in 1967.
