About the album

Released in April 1982 on Chrysalis, The Broadsword and the Beast blends the dominant synthesizer sound of the 1980s with the folk-influenced style Jethro Tull used in the previous decade. It was the first Jethro Tull album to feature Peter-John Vettese on keyboards, and the band's characteristic acoustic instrumentation is augmented by electronic soundscapes, with Ian Anderson on flute and acoustic guitar.
