Collector Notes: The tiple is Colombia's national instrument — a twelve-string cousin of the guitar, strung in four courses of three, with a bright shimmering attack you don't get from anything else. José Luis Martínez Vesga plays sixteen pieces of the Andean repertoire on it here: bambucos, pasillos and waltzes including 'Bunde Tolimense,' 'La Gata Golosa,' 'El Barcino' and 'San Pedro en el Espinal.' Colombian pressing on the FM label, catalog 2708-2. If you grew up hearing this instrument on a Sunday afternoon, that's exactly the sound on this disc. Booklet shows a tear on the bottom back side, and there are other dents and wrinkles on the front/back sides.
