About the album
Metallica's eleventh studio album, released in 2023, arrived after a long gap following Hardwired... to Self-Destruct. Produced by Greg Fidelman, who also produced that earlier record, it takes its title from James Hetfield's reflections on the first eighteen years of life. Tracks like "Lux Æterna," "Screaming Suicide," and the eleven-minute closer "Inamorata" anchor the record, and critics singled out Hetfield's introspective lyrics about his early years for praise.
