About the album

Napalm Death's second studio album, released in 1988 on Earache, pushed further than Scum, with Shane Embury later recalling that the band "just wanted to push it as far as we could and as fast as possible." The lineup was Lee Dorrian on vocals, Bill Steer on guitar, Shane Embury on bass and Mick Harris on drums, and it was one of the first albums to mix deep guttural growls and high screeches with blast beats. Lyrically it takes on social and political topics, including sexism, animal rights, racism and anti-capitalism. Terrorizer ranked it number 1 on its 2009 list of essential European grindcore albums, and Rolling Stone placed it 59th on its 2017 list of the 100 greatest metal albums of all time.
