About the album

Band on the Run arrived in late 1973 and, after a string of poorly received projects, revitalised McCartney's critical standing. It was recorded mostly in Lagos under difficult circumstances, with the band down to a core trio of Paul, Linda and Denny Laine, and McCartney handled much of the instrumentation himself. It became his best-reviewed album since the Beatles broke up, with a title track that author John Blaney calls a "five-minute mini-opera," the rocker "Jet," and the slow rocker "Let Me Roll It." Helped by the hit singles "Jet" and "Band on the Run," it topped the album charts in the UK and US and became the top-selling studio album of 1974 in the UK and Australia.
