About the album
Released in 1977, Animals is a concept album that focuses on the sociopolitical conditions of mid-1970s Britain. Loosely based on Orwell's Animal Farm, the lyrics describe different classes in society as dogs, pigs and sheep, and the album is bookended by the two halves of "Pigs on the Wing." Author Mark Blake argues that "Dogs" contains some of David Gilmour's finest work. It was produced by the band and recorded at their own Britannia Row Studios in London.
