About the album
By 1977, The Kinks had moved away from the concept albums and theatrical sound of the early '70s, switching from RCA to Clive Davis' Arista Records. Sleepwalker was their first album for Arista and the first of what critics usually call their "arena rock" phase, and it was a success in the US, reaching No. 21 on the Billboard 200. It's leaner than the theatrical albums that preceded it: the brass section and backup singers were dropped and the band went back to a standard rock outfit.
