About the album
Released in 1966, Aftermath is the first Rolling Stones LP made up entirely of original compositions, all credited to Jagger and Richards. It's also where Brian Jones stretched out instrumentally, adding sitar, Appalachian dulcimer and marimbas, with the marimba supplying the central riff of "Under My Thumb." The album shows a band moving beyond its Chicago blues and R&B influences toward a wider range of chords and styles, and it remains a pivotal step in their mid-sixties evolution.
